Wisdom Worth Having – Logic Stage Ethos (Ages ~11–13)

 

At Wisdom Worth Having, the Logic Stage shifts from simple memorization to ordered thinking, questioning, and discernment. We teach students how to think, not just what to think, while grounding them deeply in a Reformed biblical worldview. This is the stage where young people begin wrestling with ethics, apologetics, morality, and political questions using logic as the essential framework. They learn to identify and dismantle fallacies, construct sound arguments, and apply biblical truth to the pressing issues of our day. Alongside rigorous academics, every student is expected to dedicate at least one focused hour each day (and often more) to mastering a personal skill — whether it be a sport, coding, carpentry, cooking, electrical work, engineering, entrepreneurship, or building a small business. This habit forms disciplined, capable young men and women who can think clearly and work with their hands.

 

Theology: Students will systematically learn the doctrines of the Christian faith. They will grasp that the Bible is the inspired, infallible Word of God, the final authority for all belief and practice. Instruction covers sound principles of biblical interpretation (hermeneutics) and the major areas of theology: the nature of God and creation, anthropology, Christ’s person and work, the means of grace, the Church, the sacraments, and eschatology. All teaching aligns with our confessional Reformed statement of faith. Students are actively challenged to apply these truths to their own lives and to defend them against the errors of our age.

 

Literature: Students will immerse themselves in the great works that have shaped Western civilization, gaining familiarity with the common cultural consensus of the West — its ideas, beliefs, and imagination. Through careful reading and discussion, they learn to understand and engage the culture they are called to influence for Christ. We cultivate an appreciation for the beauty and power of language while training students to discern truth from falsehood, nobility from sentimentality, and moral clarity from moral confusion.

 

History & Politics: Students learn to discern the providential hand of God in human affairs. They study the lives of great leaders — both godly and ungodly — from our nation, our civilization, and redemptive history, examining the consequences of ideas and actions. By understanding the successes and failures of previous generations, students gain wisdom to avoid repeating the sins of the past and to build godliness in future generations. Special emphasis is placed on the growth of Christianity, the distinctives of Western liberty, and the threats posed by rival worldviews, including modern ideologies and Sharia.

 

Logic: Students master the tools of right reason. They study formal logic (syllogisms, propositions, and valid inference) and informal logic (recognizing and refuting common fallacies). Logic is not taught in isolation but is immediately applied to ethics, apologetics, morality, and political questions. Students learn to analyze arguments, dismantle faulty reasoning in culture and media, and build robust, biblically grounded cases for truth. In this way they glorify God, who is Himself logical and the source of all order and reason.

 

Mathematics: Students achieve mastery of arithmetic and progress to solving complex equations with single and multiple variables. They learn geometric proofs and work with trigonometric functions. Mathematics is presented as a reflection of God’s perfect order and consistency, training the mind to think precisely and revealing the mathematical structure woven into creation. Students are equipped not only with skills but with awe at the mind of the Creator.

 

Sciences: Students gain a solid foundation in general science, biology (including anatomy & physiology and marine biology), chemistry, and physics. Through the scientific method they learn inductive reasoning and careful observation. Every topic is taught in light of God’s glory as Creator, helping students see the intricate design of the natural world and reject materialistic or evolutionary myths. Science is presented as a tool for stewardship and discovery under God’s sovereign rule.

 

The Logic Stage at Wisdom Worth Having produces young people who think rigorously, live faithfully, defend truth courageously, and develop real competence through disciplined skill-building.
