Edition 3 — Holiness

Education is never only about what a child can do. It is about the kind of person he becomes. God is forming a people who are holy — set apart for Him, ready for every good work. Skills without holiness make a clever servant of the age. Holiness that never learns to work, speak, and stand is only retreat. We are after neither. We want sons and daughters who can live in the world with courage and competence, and not of it in their loves.

That is why we labour over books, habits, chapel, and home. A holy people must be able to read, to reason, to tell the truth, and to do the next faithful thing when no one is watching. The world’s measures are not ours. Christ’s are. If we love Him, and then put our hands to the work, our children may yet learn both.

NEW HOMEPAGE IS LIVE!Alongside that, we have been working hard on Ethereal Monk(emonk.ai). The basic study pages and the home pages are coming together now — the bones of a tool that lets you sit with Scripture in the company of the great cloud of witnesses: Luther, Calvin, Wesley, and others.

You choose a passage, pick a guide, and move from text to outline to manuscript. The voices are shaped by their actual writings, not leftover internet theology. It is meant for pastors, students, and anyone who wants depth rather than noise: study, sermon planning, comparison across teachers, and notes you can trace back to the source.

If education is meant to form wise people, the tools we use on the Word should form us too. That is what we are building.

WEEKLY NUGGET

In the voice of Andrew Murray

Holiness is not first a duty we perform. It is the very life of God.

When the Lord says, “Be ye holy, for I am holy,” He is not laying on us a burden we must lift by strain of will. He is opening His own heart. He is holy. He cannot give us less than Himself. The call to holiness is the call to receive the Holy One, and to let His life be our life.

Many sincere souls weary themselves trying to become holy. They watch their tempers, they multiply rules, they mourn their failures, and still they stand outside the secret. They have treated holiness as a work to be done, when it is a Person to be trusted. Christ is made unto us sanctification. The Holy Spirit is not a helper we summon when we are weak. He is the Spirit of holiness, given that the holiness of Jesus may dwell in us.

Let no one say, “This is too high for me.” What God commands, He gives. What He requires, He works. The same grace that pardoned you is the grace that will sanctify you. Come as you are. Give yourself as you are. Ask as a child. Then wait on the Lord, and let Him make you holy, because He Himself is holy.

Blessings,

Joshua Sutcliffe
